ITAMA 38 Luxury Yatch 3D Scanning
In the context of the 3D mapping/imaging services offered by ELXIS, we completed another fascinating 3D Scanning application regarding 3D modeling of the hull and the interiors of a luxury yatch type ITAMA38. The 3D model was used for hull distortions control and design of alternative interior and exterior architectural layouts.
For the 3D documentation of the boat, the 3D Laser scanner FARO FOCUS M70 was implemented, for a total of 21 discrete interior and exterior scans. For the spatial connection of the scans and the creation of a single 3D model, cross and spherical targets were attached to the hull and perimeter of the boat, in a suitable arrangement to ensure visibility from multiple scan locations. The scans' registration process, assessed errors in the horizontal plane at 1.6 mm and in the vertical plane at 0.8 mm.

For architectural layouts composition, we reconstructed the 3D geometry of the boat in 3D Mesh structure, separating the interior and the exterior into two distinct models.

Hull distortions and relative position to the reference floor, was carried out by extracting and checking two-dimensional sections of the boat's external geometry in planes parallel to the vertical axes (symmetry axis of the boat and perpendicular to it).
