ARGO-E GROUP Members Co-Author Innovative Research on Remote Rockfall Assessment Using Crowdsourced Imagery
ARGO-E GROUP contributed to the paper "Fully remote assessment of rockfall incidents based on crowdsourced imagery," published in the Bulletin of Engineering Geology and the Environment, in collaboration with our distinctive colleague P. Asteriou, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, Democritus University of Thrace.
This research introduces a remote approach to assess rockfall incidents using publicly available online data, especially UAV footage. The method utilizes Structure-from-Motion (SfM) to build 3D models and conduct 3D trajectory back-analysis.
This innovative approach, in which ARGO-E GROUP was integrally involved, offers benefits such as:
- Rapid and cost-effective data acquisition
- The ability to capture perishable data quickly
- Enhanced safety by reducing the need for immediate site visits
- Potential for more accurate analysis using detailed 3D models.
This research underscores ARGO-E GROUP's commitment to advancing geohazard assessment through innovative technologies.
